Therapy helps reduce enlarged prostate

The work of Polyclinic urologist Dr. Joseph Marquez was named as a Center of Excellence for GreenLight™ laser therapy. This therapy helps shrink an enlarged prostate, which can cause problems with passing urine.

This issue is also known as prostatic hyperplasia (BPH).

With GreenLight laser therapy, there are no cuts and usually no overnight hospital stays. Doctors use the laser to remove extra prostate tissue. This creates a larger opening and improves urine flow.

It also stops the urgency to pass urine and the need to pass urine too often.

The Center of Excellence award recognizes Marquez's work and his commitment to using GreenLight laser therapy. Only those who have used the therapy on many patients with good results are recognized.

Marquez has used GreenLight since 2004 and was the first doctor in the Seattle area to use it.

In addition to helping with issues related to passing urine, GreenLight also means that men no longer need BPH medicines. Plus, the therapy usually doesn't impact sexual function.
