Nariman Heshmati, MD is a board-certified OBGYN, part of the senior leadership team, and the Executive Medical Director for Affordability, Advocacy, and Pharmacy for Optum Washington. He joined the Everett Clinic, part of Optum, in 2009.

Dr. Heshmati has accountability for the total cost of care for patients served by Optum Washington. He oversees innovative programs and partnerships to keep complex patients healthy and reduce costs. He also coordinates our pharmacy efforts to ensure access to necessary medications for our patient population. In partnership with Optum national leadership and United Health Group External Affairs, he also provides guidance on our legislative, regulatory and community advocacy efforts.

He remains widely involved in external organizations including serving as the President of the Washington State Medical Association, as a delegate to the American Medical Association, past chair of the Washington Medical Political Action Committee, past Chair of the WA Section of the American College of OBGYNs and on the WA board of The March of Dimes. He has also served on numerous governmental task forces including being appointed by Governor Jay Inslee to the Pandemic After Action Review Committee to identify ways to improve a response to a future pandemic.

He attended medical school at Florida State University, where he served as class president. He completed his residency in Obstetrics & Gynecology at Vanderbilt University. He is a fellow of the American College of OBGYNs and received an executive MBA program at Seattle University.
