Senior Vice President & Executive Director of PCA and PCN
"One of our core strengths has been to explore new reimbursement models and strategic partnerships to help reduce costs while maintaining the highest quality care for our patients."
Denis McDonald joined The Polyclinic in 2001 as an associate administrator. In his current role, he has been closely involved in the development, daily operations, and significant growth of Polyclinic-affiliated managed care business including Physicians Care Alliance (PCA) and Physicians Care Network (PCN), lending his leadership and vision every step of the way. He was also instrumental in establishing PCA, a physician-led clinically integrated network with partners across the state.
In 2012, The Polyclinic was the first medical group in Washington state to be approved as a Medicare Shared Savings Program Accountable Care Organization. The program, overseen by McDonald, enables The Polyclinic to provide Medicare patients with high quality health care while reducing the overall cost of care through enhanced care coordination.
McDonald is also responsible for The Polyclinic’s revenue cycle, customer service, coding, compliance, HIPAA, physician compensation, and managed care departments. As part of The Polyclinic’s continuous process improvement work he oversaw improvements in revenue cycle management that have resulted in the launch of new practice management software, online bill pay, improvements in coding training and accuracy, and a significant increase in insurance pre-authorizations and follow-up.
Before joining The Polyclinic, McDonald served as deputy director and chief operating officer for University Physicians Associates in Albuquerque, New Mexico. He also served as chief operating officer for the faculty group practice at Tufts University School of Medicine. He received his bachelor’s degree in business administration from Suffolk University in Boston.
