An  obstetrical ultrasound uses sound waves to produce real-time images of your baby and the baby’s environment. At the Polyclinic we use the latest in GE Logic E9 technology with 3D capabilities.

What should I expect during my obstetrical ultrasound?

During your obstetrical ultrasound, you will lie flat on your back. The sonographer will place gel on the lower abdomen. We use an ultrasound transducer to look into your body and see the baby. Sometimes we may also perform a vaginal ultrasound for further evaluation. Exam time can range from 45 minutes to 90 minutes.

How do I prepare for my obstetrical ultrasound?

Please drink 24 ounces of water 30 to 45 minutes before your exam to ensure you have a full bladder. It is also helpful to wear loose fitting clothes that allow easy access to your abdomen.

How do I schedule my obstetrical ultrasound?

Schedule your obstetrical ultrasound by calling the Obstetrical Department or the Diagnostic Imaging Department.
