Shear wave elastography is a non-invasive technique used in ultrasound to determine fibrosis, or stiffness of liver tissue. This measurement, known as an METAVIR score, helps in diagnosing or confirming a condition.
What should I expect during my elastography ultrasound?
A sonographer will perform an abdominal scan to evaluate your liver, gallbladder, pancreas and spleen.
We will ask you to hold your breath at different times. Warm ultrasound gel will be placed on your abdomen and cleaned off easily when the scan is complete. The ultrasound will take approximately 45 minutes.
How do I prepare for my elastography ultrasound?
- Do not eat or drink for six hours before the elastography ultrasound. This allows for optimal imaging and enables the sonographer to evaluate your gallbladder.
- Wear comfortable clothing.
How do I schedule my elastography ultrasound?
You can schedule your elastography ultrasound with a physician’s order by calling the Diagnostic Imaging Department at 206-860-5496, option 2.
