Last Friday, Polyclinic employees participated in the annual United Way Day of Caring. The event marks the kickoff of the United Way giving campaign, where companies all over King County volunteer in a variety of community service projects. This year our employees spruced up St. Martin de Porres Shelter in Seattle's SoDo neighborhood.

Check out our video from the Day of Caring at St. Martin de Porres Shelter.

St. Martin de Porres Shelter provides a hospitable, safe, and orderly shelter for men 50 years of age and older who are homeless. The shelter houses about 200 men each evening. They arrive around 6 p.m. and leave the shelter by 7:30 a.m.

Volunteers were tasked with repainting rooms and stairways, reorganizing shelves, bringing in new furniture, and cleaning storage areas. “It was eye opening to see just how bad the homeless situation is in our community,” said Jennifer Johnson, a Polyclinic volunteer. “It’s extremely rewarding to do some good for St. Martin de Porres Shelter.”

Great job by everyone who participated!
