The Polyclinic Shoulder and Elbow Surgeon, Dr. Daniel Schwartz has completed the first total shoulder replacement surgeries at First Hill Surgery Center (FHSC). As of last week, Dr. Schwartz has completed two shoulder replacements at FHSC and has one more scheduled in the coming weeks.
"Dr. Schwartz and his colleagues in orthopedics are literally on the cutting edge in outpatient joint replacement at FHSC," said Dr. Steve Counter, FHSC medical director. "We've heard from patients and families about their great experience with Dr Schwartz and are excited to see the total shoulder arthroplasty (joint replacement) program continue to grow."
Improvements in regional anesthesia have made this an ideal procedure for outpatient surgery. Outpatient total shoulder replacement is a great option for patients who are healthy and are engaged in recovering at home. For these patients, outpatient joint replacement in an ASC can reduce costs and risk of infection and gets them home and recovering sooner.
Total shoulder replacement is now part of the suite of orthopedic procedures done at FHSC including total knee and total hip replacement.
"I'm really excited to offer this service for Polyclinic patients," said Dr. Schwartz.
