Dr. Alaina Garrie is a fellowship-trained geriatrician who joined The Polyclinic this fall to help launch Older Adult Medicine, a new clinic model at Northgate Plaza for adults age 65 and up.
One of the key features of the new model is longer appointments so patients can have more time with their doctor. This allows patients who may have multiple medical conditions to have time to address all their concerns and not feel rushed.
Dr. Garrie discusses the Older Adult Care Clinic and her practice philosophy in this video.
Another feature of Older Adult Medicine is the interdisciplinary care team to support patient needs that includes nurses, social workers, and physical therapists.
“My clinical interest is in patient-centered care,” shares Dr. Garrie. “As a fellowship-trained geriatrician, it is my goal to help patients be the best they can be at any age.”
Dr. Garrie’s special interests include dementia care and coordinating care for those with multiple conditions or complex needs.
“There’s so much wisdom in older people and I really love working with them. Who each patient is as a person matters to me,” Dr. Garrie says.
