Achieving and maintaining good health can look a bit different for everyone, including health care providers. In this series, we spotlight a Polyclinic provider’s approach to their physical and mental health.
A Q & A with Melanie Clemenz, MD; Dermatologist
What are your go-to healthy foods?
“I love roasted veggies in the cooler months and salad in the warmer months. I like to make sure I eat a few leafy green vegetables two to three times a day.”
What are some of your favorite ways to move (and how often)?
“I love to run! I run four times a week, and now with the stay-at-home order, I try to run five times a week to get out of the house, staying six feet away from all pedestrians when I run. I also like to do weight training twice a week so that I can stay a strong and injury-free runner. I have done 10 half marathons, and this summer, I plan to train to set a PR (personal record) on a half marathon in August.”
What is some favorite healthful advice you received and why?
“Make sure to take time for yourself. As a health care provider it is easy for me to give a lot of my time away; it is in my nature! However, it’s very important for mental well-being to reserve some time for yourself.
What is some healthful advice you give to your patients and why?
“Wear sunscreen! Also to echo above, take time to do something important to you each week so that you can fill your cup and continue to give to others.”
What are some of your favorite ways to practice self-care?
“I think running, for me, is enjoyable and gives my brain time to rest. It is also so important for my mental health to get into the outdoors.”
