This is the second in a three part series on Health Tips from Polyclinic Physicians.

Dr. Michelle Matin, a Family Medicine provider, says her number one health tip to  patients is to schedule time for movement. “Our society is pretty sedentary and a lot of people are busy or sitting for long periods of time,so getting up and walking is extremely helpful,” she said. Dr. Matin says moving more throughout the day will boost your energy, engagement, and mood.

Internal Medicine provider Dr. Oren Townsend tries not to take the elevator to his office on the 9th floor of The Polyclinic Madison Center. “I take the stairs as much as possible and try to get as many steps as I can in the day,” he said. Taking the stairs is an easy way to improve your cardiovascular functions and strengthen and tone your leg muscles. Dr. Townsend encourages people to walk and take longer routes to their destination. “Going the extra distance even if there is a shorter route is another way to stay active.”
