As a physiatrist at The Polyclinic, Dr. Pearl Ren specializes in physical medicine and rehabilitation by performing interventional pain management services for patients who suffer chronic pain from musculoskeletal disease. These procedures directly reduce pain and inflammation using injections and nerve blocks, as opposed to daily prescribed medication. She recently discussed her services in an interview with Shannon O’Kelley on KOMO News Radio’s IRG Health Talk.
Listen to Dr. Ren discuss interventional pain management on IRG Health Talk.
Dr. Ren explained how many patients suffer from neck and back pain, as well as pain in their arms and legs due to radiculopathy. She shared that some of her patients experience pain caused by nerve compression or facet joint irritation.
To alleviate pain from disc or spinal canal nerve pinching, Dr. Ren utilizes fluoroscopy. Fluoroscopy is a technology that uses computer-aided X-ray machines to detect exactly where medication should be injected. This procedure is minimally invasive and can help with pain relief after just one injection. Patients rarely need more than three treatments.
