Listen to Dr. Schwartz discuss shoulder separation on ESPN/KIRO radio.
Shoulder Separation Causes and Treatment
Dr. Schwartz explained that shoulder separation occurs when your collarbone is injured at its connection to the shoulder blade. This can happen to anyone who takes a direct blow to the upper shoulder. In most cases, shoulder separations are treated non-operatively with ice, anti-inflammatories, and physical therapy. Patients typically heal in one to two months. If separation is severe however, surgery may be required. Listen to the full interview here.
