Sean Keem, MD received his medical degree from The University of California, San Diego, with honors. He completed his internship in general surgery at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School and his residency in orthopedic surgery at Rutgers New Jersey Medical School where he served as chief resident. The doctor did his fellowship in spine surgery at Lakewood Orthopedic Clinic/St. Anthony Hospital/The Children’s Hospital/Craig Hospital, Denver, Colorado
Dr. Keem is a board certified orthopedic back surgeon with special interest in minimally invasive spine surgeries (MIS), including XLIF/DLIF, AxiaLIF, ILIF, X-STOP, percutaneous pedicle and facet screw fixation, kyphoplasty, vertebroplasty, microdiscectomy and foraminotom, lateral thoracic and lumbar discectomy and fusion, percutaneous spinal tumor ablation, percutaneous spinal abscess evacuation, and sacro-iliac arthrodesis; artificial disc replacement of cervical and lumbar spine; surgeries for cervical, thoracic and lumbar disc degeneration/herniation/spinal stenosis causing radiculopathy and/or myelopathy; surgeries for cervical, thoracic and lumbar traumatic conditions; complex reconstructive spine surgeries involving substraction osteotomy, pedicle screw fixation and posterior/anterior/lateral fusion for congenital, developmental and degenerative scoliosis, kyphosis and spondylolisthesis; revision surgeries for failed-back, non-union, mal-union and adjacent segments.
Dr. Keem believes that thorough examination of the patient and communication with the patient and sometimes his/her family is essential. Each patient has different expectations and risk-tolerance levels for available treatment options. The doctor sees his role as empowering the patient with information, facilitating the decision making process and executing the decision that the patient ultimately makes, for optimal surgical outcome.

Spine surgical teaching/mission trip to Kenyatta National Hospital, Nairobi, Kenya. Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery symposiums and teaching at YonSei, Catholic and Asan University Centers, Seoul, South Korea. Surgeon training for XLIF, AxiaLIF and TDR (Total Disc Replacement) procedures. Certification of appreciation by 5th Ranger Training Battalion.
