Dr. Kern attained his medical degree, as well as a doctorate in immunology and dermatology training at the University of Washington. He completed his undergraduate degree at Johns Hopkins University while doing research on cancer and aging at the National Institutes of Health.
Dr. Kern's practice is focused on dermatological surgery, skin cancer screening, skin cancer treatment, identification and treatment of benign and pre-cancerous growths of the skin.
Dr. Kern began his career in full time academics as the immunologist for the Division of Dermatology (now the Department of Dermatology) at the University of Washington. He continued to teach at UW for many years as an Associate Professor after coming to the Polyclinic in 1999. Dr. Kern served as the head of Polyclinic Dermatology for nearly a decade, and maintains involvement in the clinic’s leadership and governance.
